All our Oak timber frames are bespoke design then hand built in our workshop fusing together state of the art computer-aided-design and the best traditional manufacturing processes. Our designers based in Scotland will meet with you to discuss your ideas then prepare initial design sketches and budget costings. Following these discussions, we will prepare a set of full working drawings and calculations for submission to the planning and building control authorities. As a general rule, the earlier we are involved in the project the better. On receipt of the necessary consents, we will then prefabricate the structure within the workshop on our purpose made framing floor. We use a traditional and precise method of joinery known as ‘the scribe rule’ wherein each timber component is individually scribed into position, in a process called ‘lofting,’ above a life size drawing on the floor. The joints are cut by hand and fixed using hand-made Oak pegs. Each piece of timber has to have an exclusive number or ‘carpenters mark’ to distinguish it and to aid the re-assembly process on site. Historically, these ‘marks’ were based on Roman numerals due to their ease of chiselling, but individual craftsmen tend to develop their own system. This attention to detail ensures that we deliver accurate timber structures whether it be for a oak timber framed home or building to site which can be raised, with the help of a crane, in as little as a day. |
